Comments by Andrew Goldsworthy on a widely publicised paper by Arendash and co-workers that suggests that mobile phone radiation may cure Alzheimer's disease. I have looked at the original Arendash et al paper and things are not quite as reported in the press, for the following reasons: The radiation was not modulated, Unmodulated radiation is less biologically active, Radiation hormesis, Amplitude modulated waves can weaken cell membranes and cause illnesses, ansAmplitude modulation can also affect cryptochrome to increase the risk of cancer.

This is another article written by Andrew Goldsworthy, covering the understood mechanisms by which animals use the Earth's magnetic field for navigation, and how man made electromagnetic radiation may cause a number of potentially severe problems. Many of our birds are disappearing mysteriously from the urban environment and our bees are now under serious threat. There is increasing evidence that at least some of this is due to electromagnetic pollution such as that from cell towers, cell phones, DECT cordless phones and Wifi. It appears capable of interfering with their navigation systems and also their circadian rhythms, which in turn reduces their resistance to disease. The most probable reason is that these animals use a group of magnetically-sensitive substances called cryptochromes for magnetic and solar navigation and also to control the activity of their immune systems.

Another study has just been published showing clear evidence that mobile phones can negatively affect human sleep. This study also clearly demonstrates non-thermal responses that cannot be due to a nocebo reaction.

19/12/2007 - Dutch ES Questionnaire finds typical ES Symptoms [Read More...]

This questionnaire was completed by 250 electrohypersensitive (EHS) persons in the Netherlands over a 3-year period, who contacted the EHS Foundation on their own initiative. Self declared health problems were recorded along with the sources of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) - if known - that caused the health effects.
